Swim Lessons at Anderson HealthPlex

Mercy HealthPlex swim instructors are American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certified and have an average of 19+ years of experience. The majority of our instructors have been competitive swimmers and/or coaches in the past. Swim lessons are also offered at the Fairfield and Western Hills HealthPlexes.

Private & Semi-Private Swim Lessons

Private and Semiprivate swim lessons offer personal intruction that you schedule at your convenience. Let our certified Water Safety Instructors (WSI) help you learn to swim and be comfortable in the water. Call the Aquatics Information Line at 624-1886 to set up a time and instructor. Ages: Child to Adult

PRIVATE LESSONS
Cost to Members: $23 per half-hour session; $196 for 10 half-hour sessions
Cost to Non-Members: $35 for half-hour session; $279 for 10 half-hour sessions

SEMI-PRIVATE LESSON - 2 participants
Cost to Members: $17/participant for half-hour sessions; $123/participant for 10 half-hour sessions
Cost to Non-Members: $22/participant for half-hour sessions; $166/participant for 10 half-hour sessions

SEMI-PRIVATE LESSON - 3 participants
Cost to Members: $12/participant for half-hour sessions; $82/participant for 10 half-hour sessions
Cost to Non-Members: $15/participant for half-hour sessions; $112/participant for 10 half-hour sessions

Group Swim Lessons

Learning to swim is a skill that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Mercy HealthPlex offers the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Program with a focus on how to be safe in and around the water. Swim lessons are offered for infants (6 months) up to adults.

HealthPlex swim lesson program includes:

  • Small class sizes with low instructor-to-student ratio
  • Certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors (WSI) who average 19 years experience
  • Warm-water pool and lap pool

SWIM LESSON SCHEDULE


Group Class Descriptions

Infant/Parent
Approximate age: 6-24 months

We teach parents how to teach their child how to swim. Introduces the basics of water comfort, fun, water submersion and safety and is taught in the warm water pool. Requires an adult caregiver in the water with each child.

Parent/Child
Approximate age: 2-5 years

For children ready to learn swimming skills but not ready to leave their caregiver. Teaches the same skills as Level 1-Preschool but with the fun and safety of being with a parent. Prepares your child for a smooth transition into group lessons. Taught in the warm water pool. Requires an adult caregiver in the water with each child.

Infant/Parent/Child Combo
Approximate age: 6 months - 3 years
A combination of our Infant/Parent and Parent/Child classes. This class teaches the same skills that are taught in the separate classes. Requires an adult caregiver in the water with each child.

Preschool - Level 1: Let's Explore the Pool!
Approximate age: 3-5 years (must be 3 before last class)

For children who are ready to learn swimming skills in a group setting. Designed to help preschoolers feel comfortable in the water with a focus on safety and basic swim skills. Taught in the warm water pool.

Preschool - Level 2: Look at Me!
Approximate age: 3-5 years (must be 3 before last class)

This class continues to let children get comfortable in the water in a group setting. Children work on floating, locomotion, submerging and self help safety skills. Taught in the warm water pool.

Preschool - Level 3: I Can Do It!
Approximate age: 3-5 years (must be 3 before last class)

For children who are ready to learn independent swimming skills in a group setting. Designed to help preschoolers be independent swimmers and feel comfortable in the water with a focus on safety and the basic swim skills. Taught in the warm water pool.


Learn to Swim - Level 1: Water Exploration
Approximate age: 5-6 years

This class helps children get comfortable in the water learning floating, locomotion, submerging, and self help safety skills. Taught in the warm water pool.

Learn to Swim - Level 2: Primary Skills
Approximate age: 5-7 years

Students learn to float without assistance, locomotion, self help safety skills and are introduced to front and back crawl. Taught in the warm water pool.

Learn to Swim - Level 3: Stroke Readiness
Approximate age: 5-8 years

Students learn front/back crawl, elementary backstroke and treading water. Taught in the warm water pool.

Learn to Swim - Level 4: Stroke Development
Approximate age: 5-12 years

Stroke technique is improved as well as endurance. The breaststroke, sidestroke and turns will be taught. Taught in the lap pool.

Learn to Swim - Level 5: Sea Cubs
Approximate age: 5-12 years

Introduce your child to competitive swimming the right way. The Sea Cubs provide the transition from swim lessons to swim team. Each child will learn competitive strokes, safe diving and turns and compete in an intra-squad meet. With a small swimmer to coach ration, it is the perfect way to prepare for the Sea Wolves Swim Team. Participants must be able to swim one lap of the pool on their stomach and one lap on their back. Learn to Swim – ADULT: It’s NEVER too late to learn to swim!
Approximate age: 13 years & over

We will focus on stroke development, floating, treading water and rotary breathing techniques. Taught in the lap pool.
