Mercy Health - West Hospital Construction Update

(CINCINNATI; December 10, 2012) – With less than a year to go before opening, construction crews are making great progress on Mercy Health – West Hospital.

Here are the latest key updates from Mercy Health’s new West Side hospital:

• The blue glass panels that will form a cross on the east side of the building are visible and drivers can see them from I-74. The crew completed installation of both this cross and the cross on the west side of the building in November.
• The construction crew will install the remaining glazed tile panels for the western face of the building by the end of December.
• Landscapers have planted all the plants for the green roof so they will take root in time for the spring growing season next year.
• Landscapers will plant trees along Mercy Boulevard and the ring road in November and December, so that they can root and be ready for spring.
• We turned on the first boiler last month, producing heat for the interior of the building. Many other mechanical systems will come on-line in the months to come.
• Teams have started adding limestone finishes on the long serpentine-type wall on the west face of the hospital.
• The crew will install the entryway’s monumental walls, also in limestone, in December.
• We broke ground on the Medical Office building in October

When Mercy Health – West Hospital opens in 2013, the 250-bed hospital will feature the latest advancements in design for patient care and comfort, all private rooms and expanded medical services for residents of the West Side. The comprehensive care will include heart care with open heart surgery, a cancer care center, an orthopaedics center, a women’s health center and maternity care. Mercy Health – West Hospital will serve as the center of our growing network of healthcare services throughout the West Side. Our network includes two acute care hospitals, free-standing emergency medical center, two senior living communities, four outpatient facilities, more than 20 primary care and specialist physicians’ offices and a health and fitness center.
